Fall in New England

This past fall was absolutely stunning. I feel so lucky that I was able to witness it! Each and every day, in pouring rain or blinding sun, the foliage stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't even drive a mile from home without pulling over to a screeching halt so that I could snap pictures of the trees. I'm sure I got countless strange looks from passers-by, but I couldn't stop myself.

I stopped wherever I could to capture the surroundings:

Usually, if I can't get up to the White Mountains in the fall, I am devastated. Those mountains are most beautiful in the fall and winter. Unfortunately, I didn't make it up there this year—but to my surprise, I felt so happy just taking pictures around town. The past few fall seasons brought muted, brown, wilted leaves—but this season, it seemed like God Himself splashed paint on all the trees.

I could finally keep things in the moment and appreciate the beautiful colors around me, no matter where I was. Even the trees in my backyard were photo-worthy:

We finally had a quintessential New England fall: swaying trees, sparkling, bronze sunsets, the sound of twigs snapping under shoes, the sweet, caramel smell of burning leaves—and the feeling of a cushioned earth—soft from layers upon layers of soggy, wind-blown leaves at season's end.
